Holcomb Valley Ranch has a rich history. Once a gold mining settlement, many of the parcels at Holcomb Valley Ranch were established as mining claims. Subsequently, the property served as a cattle ranch for several decades under the ownership of William Hitchcock who constructed the cluster of historic buildings as his family’s residence. William Hitchcock then sold the property to the Boy Scouts of America in the 1960s at which time the property began incrementally improving as a Scout camp. During the Scouts’ 50+ years of ownership, the meadow has been leased out for pasture, and horses grazing in the meadow has become a signature of the experience at Holcomb Valley Ranch. Aside from the natural beauty of the land, evidence of the property’s history adds to the unique character of the ranch.
